Common questions
How does iCloud sync work?
Sprocket syncs through your own private iCloud, so your records appear on every iPhone and iPad signed in to the same Apple Account. Sync is controlled by the iCloud setting for Sprocket in the Settings app (tap your name, then iCloud). Sprocket's own Settings screen shows whether sync is on and when it last synced.
You don't need a connection to use Sprocket. Changes you make offline sync automatically once you're back online.
My records aren't showing up on my other device
- Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account.
- Check that iCloud is turned on for Sprocket on both devices.
- Connect to the internet and open Sprocket. Large attachments can take a little longer to arrive.
- Check that your iCloud storage isn't full.
If you recently turned off iCloud for Sprocket or signed out of iCloud, your synced records are removed from that device but stay safe in iCloud. They come back when you turn iCloud on again, and anything you added in the meantime is kept.
Can I track by hours instead of miles?
Yes. When you add a vehicle, choose its Tracking Mode:
- Distance for anything tracked by miles or kilometers, like cars, motorcycles, and road bikes.
- Hours for anything serviced by hours of use, like the engine hours on a boat, tractor, or generator, or the ride time on a mountain bike.
- Time Only for gear with no meter at all, scheduled by date.
For bicycles, road bikes are often tracked by distance and mountain bikes by hours. Check your bike's service manual for how best to track its maintenance.
Vehicles tracked by distance or hours follow the calendar too, so date-based service is always covered.
Important: The tracking mode is locked when you create a vehicle and can't be changed afterward, so choose the one that matches how it's serviced.
How do I back up or move my data?
Open Sprocket's Settings and look under Data:
- Back Up saves a complete backup file, including every photo, video, and file you've attached, that you can keep wherever you like, such as in the Files app.
- Restore from Backup brings records back from a backup file, and lets you choose which vehicles to restore.
- Export CSV creates a spreadsheet-friendly copy of your records, with the option to include your original attachments.
Backups and exports are always free, for everyone.
I'm selling a vehicle. Can I give its records to the new owner?
Yes, and its whole history goes with it:
- In Sprocket's Settings, under Data, tap Back Up and choose just that vehicle.
- Send the backup file to the new owner, for example with AirDrop or email.
- They save it to their Files app, then in Sprocket's Settings tap Restore from Backup and choose it.
Restoring is free, so they don't need Sprocket Pro to see the records. The backup includes everything recorded for that vehicle, such as notes, attachments, and the shops you used, so it's worth a quick look before you share it.
What's free, and what does Sprocket Pro add?
Sprocket is free for as many vehicles as you own, and includes fuel-up and charging logs, attachments, efficiency charts, documents, history, search, export, backups, and iCloud sync.
Sprocket Pro adds maintenance, repair, and expense logs, odometer and hour meter entries, a maintenance schedule built from your history, and reminders. You can try Pro free for 14 days, and choose monthly, yearly, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Family Sharing is supported.
How do I restore a purchase or redeem a code?
Open Sprocket's Settings and tap Restore Purchases or Redeem Code. Both are also on the Sprocket Pro screen.
To manage or cancel a subscription, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. If you buy the lifetime option while a subscription is active, please cancel the subscription there so it doesn't renew.
Why didn't I get a reminder?
- Reminders are part of Sprocket Pro.
- Make sure notifications are allowed for Sprocket in the Settings app, under Notifications.
- Reminders based on a date arrive on schedule, even when Sprocket is closed.
- Reminders based on miles or hours are checked when you open Sprocket, so keeping your odometer or hour meter up to date keeps them accurate.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete individual records or whole vehicles in the app. Deleting Sprocket from a device removes the copy stored on that device.
To remove everything Sprocket has stored in your iCloud, open the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, and manage your storage. Choose Sprocket and delete its data.
Does Sprocket collect my data?
No. Your records live on your device and in your private iCloud, and Sprocket has no account, ads, or tracking. The Sprocket privacy policy has the details.
What do I need to use Sprocket?
An iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 27 or later. To sync between devices, sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on each one.
How do I report a problem or suggest a feature?
Use the form below, or open Sprocket's Settings and tap Send Feedback. That starts an email to us with your app version, iOS version, and device model already filled in, which helps us look into problems faster.
